ABOUT SABLE & GRAY
Sable & Gray is a stationery and paper goods company located in Traverse City, Michigan. We specialize in custom wedding invitations featuring hand-painted watercolors and hand-drawn designs. We find the inspiration for our designs in everything from the bride's bouquet to the architectural details of her ceremony location.
Our mission has been to create a stress-free environment for brides to work one-on-one with a designer to create their dream, one-of-a-kind, wedding invitation suites. The invitation is such a great opportunity to set the tone for the whole wedding, so it is our goal to create the highest quality pieces that are not only beautiful but that also capture each client's unique love story. Founder and creative director, Kristin's background in architecture gives her a unique perspective on the design process, and has taught her to appreciate the smallest of design details (because as Charles Eames said, "the details are not the details, the details make the design").
We offer a wide variety of printing styles including letterpress, laser-cutting, thermography, hot foil, and digital printing and we offer beautiful extras such as hand-painted watercolor maps, velvet ribbon bindings, custom-designed wedding crests, and hand-lettered guest addressing. We have had the honor of being featured in several prestigious publications including the Carolina Bride Book, Magnolia Rouge, and Oh So Beautiful Paper.

"I always thought I wanted to be an Architect. I loved the idea of spending my days sketching and watercoloring houses from my imagination, and building models of someone's dream home out of little bits of wood. After studying my toosh off and graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Architecture, I stepped off of campus and into the real world only to find that, during my time in school, architecture had become a computer-driven career. Where had the watercolors gone!?? Where were my detailed hand-made models!?? I realized that, unless I wanted to spend my days staring at a computer screen, it was time to reevaluate my career path and find something that I could really be artistic with; something that I loved.
I found that love in stationery. I am now able to spend my time doing the things that bring me joy... sketching, watercoloring, letterpressing, and calligraphy-ing. (I may have just made that word up) And these things not only bring me joy, they also bring joy to every person who receives them. I mean, what is better than opening the mailbox to see your name written in script across a colorful envelope? That's SO much better than getting another email in your inbox or a "like" on facebook.
So I may not be the architect that I always thought I'd be, but that doesn't mean I'm not doing what I love. Creating custom stationery makes me so very happy, and I hope to share that happiness with every person who opens their mailbox to see a beautiful, hand-made card or invitation from Sable & Gray."
Kristin founded Sable & Gray in January, 2014 in the hopes of sharing her love of painting, snail mail, and beautiful paper with others. She currently lives in her hometown of Traverse City, Michigan after spending 9 years on the East Coast attending design school and working as a designer. When she is not creating paper goods, Kristin enjoys spending time with her husband, little girl, and new baby, hiking with her two crazy dogs, singing, and sipping on lattes.
