On a chilly winter evening in Traverse City, Michigan twelve lovely ladies gathered at the Studio Smiths building to take our first ever Hand-Lettering workshop. It was such a fun night, filled with laughter, donuts, wine, and learning new skills.
We began the class with an overview of the basic concepts of traditional calligraphy and what forms to practice in order to learn the traditional calligraphy alphabet. We practiced those shapes using a brush-tip marker, and once everyone was comfortable doing the basic forms we moved onto the alphabet. We then applied those skills to modern hand-lettering, using a pointed-tip marker. And toward the end of the class everyone used their new lettering abilities to design their own hand-lettered wooden Christmas ornaments. Each one was so unique and it was really fun to see what each student came up with for their design.
I met so many incredible women that night, each with their own reasoning for taking the class. Some were hoping to have a fun girls' night out, while others were hoping to learn a new business skill or expand on a creative passion that they had already begun. To all the ladies that made it out that night... thank you for being my hand-lettering workshop guinea pigs! I had the best time sharing my love for lettering with you all and appreciate you all more than you know!
xoxo,
Kristin
P.S. A huge thank you to Wren Photography for taking the gorgeous images of our hand-lettering workshop!
